DOMO Chemical, the world's leading manufacturer of high-quality engineering materials, announced that it plans to shut down DOMO Chemical's third biaxially oriented polyamide (BOPA) film production line.
This plan will take effect in Leuna, Germany in August 2020. Due to the global overcapacity of nylon film, the company made this difficult decision.
Attilio Annoni, Managing Director of DOMO Chemical Thin Film Solutions, said: "In the exceptional circumstances of business turbulence, we chose to continue to focus on quality and flexibility through prudent and wise asset management, rather than react to short-term trading volume strategies. ."
With the acquisition of Solvay's PA66 business in Europe by Domo Chemicals at the beginning of this year, Domo Chemicals has become the world's leading integrated producer of nylon 6 and 66.
Although the current market slowdown has affected the automotive and other industrial sectors served by DOMO’s "Polymers and Intermediates" and "Engineered Materials" divisions, the company is still on the road to achieving its global growth goals.
DOMO Chemical’s nylon film business remains a key asset. It forms part of the supply chain related to market segments such as medicine, medical treatment, and food packaging, all of which have proven vital during the epidemic.
At the moment when BOPA downstream demand is generally saturated and new capacity digestion capacity is limited, Domo Chemicals actively cut production, which may help take the lead in alleviating excess pressure and avoid intensifying market competition.
